London, July 2025: On July 12th the British Music Vault will be launched officially at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) guitar conference taking place in Guildford, Surrey. Inspired by the 25-year-old NAMM Oral History Program in the USA, our purpose is to create a lasting archive of British music by recording the experiences, achievements and reflections of many musicians, artists and industry personnel who have contributed to one of the most successful creative industries in the UK. We review their innovative creations, store historically important memories and record those across all genres who are part of our great culture of British music over the generations. The recordings will all be secured in the 'Vault' for enjoyment, research, reference and for future generations.
Highlight of the launch is a world-exclusive and previously unseen interview with George Harrison in conversation with the late British session bass player Mo Foster. Filmed in spring 1995 at Abbey Road Studios during the making of 'The Beatles Anthology', George talks candidly about what he, Paul and Ringo were doing at the time as well as making references to John Lennon whose re-worked songs 'Free As A Bird' and 'Real Love' were both released as Beatles singles as part of the Anthology project.
Other early contributors to the BMV programme include such industry luminaries as session legends Ray Russell and Mo Foster himself; drummers Simon Phillips, Sophie Alloway and Adam Bushell; Osibisa's Gregg Kofi Brown; jazz guitarist Nigel Price; documentary film director Alan Boyd; luthier Graham Esson; Denmark Street retailer Sid Bishop; music promoter Juliet Sharman Matthews; SongLink International editor and musician David Stark; Crypt Studio owner Ricky Barber; venue owner Tristan Banks, events organiser Phil Steere; and sound engineer Howard Heckers.
Further feature will include rare, previously unseen recordings such as Jeff Beck's 'There and Back Tour' (1980); Gary Moore at his blistering best from 2009; Chris Difford captured live; a Midge Ure studio session from 2010; Leo Sayer's version of the 'Minder' theme in tribute to Mo Foster and many more. Latest news, special features and links to the dedicated YouTube channel will be promoted via the BMV website www.britishmusicvault.com. Audio versions of the interviews will also be available as podcasts on Spotify.
We are proud and excited to be supported by our friends at the Academy of Contemporary Music (UK) and the NAMM Oral History Program (USA) Watch trailer for the GEORGE HARRISON interview here: https://youtu.be/T542Ackpg3E
