London January 2023: Legendary UK rock band The Sweet's new single is "Don't Bring Me Water" written by SongLink subscriber Tim Fraser, who has had previous cuts with such artists as Tina Turner, Lulu and Kim Richey. The Sweet - still featuring original guitarist Andy Scott - placed a lead in SongLink in 2021 to find songs for their forthcoming new album of which this is the first single released on January 6th 2023, coinciding with the start of SongLink's 30th anniversary year. A video of the song is up on YouTube at https://youtu.be/hxKnY1NMs3c.

Tim Fraser commented, "I am incredibly grateful to SongLink for connecting me with The Sweet. They have always been an incredible rock band and they sound better than ever these days. To have your heroes record your songs is a special feeling. The band has done an amazing job on "Don't Bring Me Water", their next single. As ever, having a great song is only part of the story. A great song needs great connections and SONGLINK gives you that no matter which genre you work in. Thanks again to David and the SongLink team."

The Sweet is a success story that began in 1970. When the late Brian Connolly and Mick Tuckerleft Wainwrights Gentlemen in 1968 to form their own band "Sweetshop", later shortened to "The Sweet", little did they know what lay ahead. They recruited Steve Priest on bass who was gaining a reputation with his band, The Army. After two guitarists and four singles which failed to make the charts the band were at a crossroads, almost at the point of splitting when Andy Scott, from The Elastic Band, joined. The year was 1970 and the "classic" Sweet line up was complete, having huge hits such as "Ballroom Blitz", "Blockbuster", "Fox On The Run" and "Love Is Like Oxygen".

The "golden thread" that links the past through to the present and into the future is Andy Scott. His determination to maintain high standards with the band's musical legacy and touring is legendary. The band today has an illustrious pedigree recreating "live" the high energy and soaring vocals associated with the Sweet sound that is the band's trademark. Today The Sweet are Paul Manzi (lead vocals); Andy Scott (guitar and vocals), Lee Small (bass guitar and vocals and Bruce Bisland (drums and vocals).
