SongLink > Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp May 24 - 29th

SongLink's David Stark is set to be the Songwriting Counsellor at the first London Rock'N Roll Fantasy Camp (RRFC) taking place from May 24 - 29th. Founded in 1998 by concert promoter David Fishof, RRFC gives campers - from company CEOs to musical novices to garage band veterans - the chance to rock out with legends of rock'n'roll. Coached by such rock icons as Roger Daltrey (The Who), Brian Wilson (Beach Boys), Paul Stanley (Kiss), Mickey Hart (Grateful Dead), Dickey Betts (Allman Brothers) and many others, past campers have learned first-hand what goes into 'making the band.'
Famous rockers taking part in the debut London event include Bill Wyman (ex-Rolling Stones), Jack Bruce (Cream), Gary Brooker (Procol Harum), Jon Lord (Deep Purple), Paul Carrack (Squeeze, Mike and the Mechanics), Simon Kirke (Bad Company & Free), Mick Ralphs (Bad Company & Free), Bruce Kulick (Kiss), Spencer Davis (Spencer Davis Group), Neil Murray (Whitesnake & Black Sabbath), Spike Edney (Queen keyboard player), with more to be announced. The London campers will rehearse at John Henry Studios in north London, before concluding with a 'Battle of the Bands' session at Abbey Road Studios.
From dawn to dusk, campers eat, drink and play music with the stars as they enjoy one-on-one master classes and late-night jam sessions. Campers form bands with rock star 'counsellors', rehearse, collaborate and create music and finally hit the stage as genuine rock stars, playing top-notch instruments. In addition, an optional extra day on May 29th will see the group heading to Liverpool for a performance at the Cavern Club, built on the site of the original venue where The Beatles played an astonishing 274 gigs from 1961-63, and which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year.

Roger Daltrey and Brian Wilson have already lent their expertise in the States, and now the US music phenomenon that transforms rock fans into rock stars opens its doors on British soil. Immortalized through The Simpsons episode, which featured Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, the Rock 'n Roll Fantasy Camp continues its Rolling Stones line-up as founding bassist Bill Wyman rocks his way through the camp this May in what will be an intimate Stones event. Wyman promises to "bring my axe in the studio and jam on a Stones tune with every camper!"
The most recent camp was held in Los Angeles from February 15-19th, featuring special guests Brian Wilson, Steve Vai, Bret Michaels (Poison), Mickey Hart, Paul Stanley, Dickey Betts and Jeffrey Foskett (Brian Wilson's band). The event culminated in a Beach Boys tribute session, about which Brian Wilson said, "The Rock 'N Roll Fantasy Camp was a real trip. It was an honour to hear all of those different bands perform our music - some of them very original versions. I look forward to doing it again!" RRFC supporters include Gibson, Korg and Marshall who provide instruments and equipment, while there are plans to film and televise the event.
