VETERAN SONGWRITER PAUL EVANS PENS MEMOIRS
London, July 2021: New Yorker Paul Evans has had a long and varied musical career as a songwriter and artist. Although he has written many song lyrics, "Happy Go Lucky Me" is his first book, one that describes his journey from getting his start in the music business; becoming part of New York's legendary song-writing community; and the sixty-three music-filled years that followed. He was one of the first young writers to show up and work in the Bill Building on Tin Pan Alley, where he made his first demos.
This is also where he was encouraged to change his name from Paul Lyle Rapport to Paul Evans. As a songwriter, Evans has written hits for himself as well as for Bobby Vinton like the 1962 classic, "Roses Are Red, My Love"; the Kalin Twins "When" in 1957; and "The Next Step Is Love" and "I Gotta Know" for Elvis Presley among many others. His songs have also been featured in movies such as Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas" and John Waters' "Pecker"; TV shows "Scrubs", the "Hulu" series, and "11.22.63"; and TV ads (the 1965 CLEO-winning Kent commercial "Happiness Is" as well as for Sainsbury's and France's Intermarché grocery chains.
Evans also wrote an off-off Broadway show, "Cloverleaf Crisis", as well as the theme for the original network television show, CBS This Morning. He has also spent a great deal of his life as a recording artist. His 1959 and 60's Guaranteed Records hits include "Seven Little Girls Sitting In The Back Seat", "Midnight Special" and "Happy-Go-Lucky Me", while his 1979 Spring Records hit "Hello, This Is Joannie" reached # 6 on the UK charts and was Top 40 on the Billboard Country charts.
Evans has also produced music tracks for recordings, industrials, jingles and television. He has also soloed and sung in groups on many commercial jingles, and has been seen and heard on the David Letterman Show, The Conan O'Brien Show, and more. His voice can also be heard in the Woody Allen films "Mighty Aphrodite" and "Everyone Says I Love You." He was also a part of the world-traveling jazz quintet, Group 5ive. Paul still lives in New York in his City apartment with his wife Susan.
This is the first and only book showcasing Paul Evans' amazing career, with many stories about the life and times of the early Brill Building and Tin Pan Alley. The book is full of funny and cleverly crafted anecdotes, as you would expect from a talented wordsmith and songwriter.
