JAY Z, KANYE & MANZANERA TEAM FOR GATSBY TRAILER
London, June 1st: The soundtrack for the trailer of Baz Luhrmann's forthcoming remake of The Great Gatsby features 'No Church In The Wild', one of the standout tracks on Jay Z and Kanye West's new album which heavily features the driving, powerful guitar riff of Roxy Music's Phil Manzanera. The film trailer was released on Tuesday, as was the dynamic new video for 'No Church In The Wild', shot in Prague. The track has also been used in recent thriller 'Safe House' starring Denzel Washington.
Phil Manzanera said, "It's been great that 'No Church in the Wild' has taken on a life of its own and has resonated with fans and filmmakers. It's a project that keeps surprising me - firstly that Jay Z and Kanye West discovered my riff written in 1976, and secondly its wide appeal, from the 1920's setting of The Great Gatsby, to the new video's scenes of modern day civil unrest."
Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, The Great Gatsby is about Nick Carraway, a Midwesterner now living on Long Island, who finds himself fascinated by the mysterious past and lavish lifestyle of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. He becomes drawn into Gatsby's circle, becoming a witness to obsession and tragedy. The film also stars Carey Mulligan and Tobey Magure, with screenplay and direction by Baz Luhrmann. The film opens worldwide later this year.
