The following is a selection of reports regularly
listed in SongLink from both subscribers
and advertisers looking for songs:

SIMON REDLEY at Kudos Music reports, "The title track of Lucie Diamond's award-winning CD I Wanna Be Rich, was found via SongLink and recently had its first national BBC play on Radio 2's Alex Lester's show. Ironically, Lucie has been played on national radio in many other countries for the last few years, and on CMT in the USA, but no national coverage in her own country until recently.
"The song was written by one of Lucie's friends and co-writers in Nashville, Joie Scot, who's had some big cuts (including Colin Raye's No. 1 Not That Different). We found it via SongLink, as your initial lead got us to a publisher/plugger in Nashville who sent us a batch of songs, including I Wanna Be Rich. It sat in a drawer for ages after we first rejected it. Then at final selection we were a song short and I sifted through a few hundred demos that I had kept as "possibles." That song jumped out and we both said "that's our title track." In all we ended up using a total of five songs on her award-winning debut CD that came via SongLink.
"This summer Lucie headlined to 50,000 people in Lithuania and her set was broadcast live on national radio to 3 million people. It was also filmed for national TV to 4 million, and will be screened across the entire Baltic States in October. Her recent headline show in France was also filmed for French TV, and we really appreciate your consistent support."

He is currently enjoying success with two co-writes on the new album Out Of Control by Russian superstar Valeriya, which topped the Russian album chart and is now being launched worldwide. She has reportedly sold over 100 albums, and is set to play her debut UK concerts in the next few months. Previously Peter co-wrote the opening track I Was Born from the platinum selling album by Natalia (SonyBMG Belgium) and (with Jess Cates) co-wrote the German No .1 platinum single I Sill Burn for Pop Idol winner Tobias Regner, which started out as a track on the SongLink CD in 2005.
Peter has just landed a self-penned song in the new Disney/Touchstone film Swing Vote starring Kevin Costner, Kelsey Grammer, Dennis Hopper, Judge Reinhold and Larry King, and has a track Keep The Dream Alive on the new album Forte by classical crossover trio Destino in the USA. This will be their second single, the first being a song by Diane Warren. The song was also cut by South African Pop Idol winner George Meiring. He also co-wrote the best selling single and title track of the new album by another South African Pop Idol winner, Dewald (SonyBMG). Subscriber CEDRIC WHITEHOUSE reports, "I have licensed a few tracks recently to Bob Dellaposta at My Three Kids Music in Nashville through an initial SongLink connection. He has taken one or two of my new Latino tracks, which hopefully will pick up some airtime on US TV as some of my earlier tracks did.Bob is a very experienced musician/publisher and has a very pro-active approach. As I write this I hear he is also keen to license a couple of my uptempo guitar-based instrumentals aimed at sport or extreme sport projects. I have also just signed a couple of my chill/jazz style instrumentals, one a trumpet feature a la Chris Botti, and a soulful piano led piece to QWPM here in the UK for a new late night album project. SongLink has been a key part of my placing quite a number of tracks, songs and instrumentals over the past couple of years. Also, through SongLink, I'm working with Al Dickenson at SMD Music in France with quite an assorted bunch of music and songs, notably American Heart which is an uptempo rock song which has begun to pick up some airtime in the USA notably around Democratic radio stations in Arizona the song is a politically inspired and has the message 'put the heart back in America, give us back the dream'..."

Elli U
|
SongLink subscriber SHARON DEAN of Respect Music pitched a song to young Latvian artist Elli U (EMI Latvia) through SongLink two years ago. The song, titled Ice, was penned by multi-hit writer Karen Gibbs and Lynsey Moore. Although Sharon knew the song was cut, she didn't realise how big it had become - and that Elli has since been signed to a UK label on the strength of it. GUY STANWAY of ZY Records takes up the story:
"I was visiting Latvia in 2006 to see a Whitesnake gig (my brother Mark Stanway playing keyboards), and after the show I was with a close friend of mine, Arnis Lejnis (now label manager for Zy Records in Latvia), in his apartment when I saw a 15/16 year old on TV performing a song called Ice. The charisma she displayed was incredible and the track was clearly a winner so upon my return to the UK I made a few enquiries. Elli subsequently took the track to No 1 on the radio airplay charts and it remained in the charts for 22 weeks. Elli was also carving out a great name for herself and seemed to be the toast of the local press and radio.
"In the meantime I was very busy with a newly signed artist, 10Shott, who is being tipped by HipHop Connection as 'the future of UK rap.' Touring the Baltic States we found ourselves back in Latvia gigging when one night back in the hotel, I again saw this girl on TV performing the same song, Ice and 2 other contagious songs. I could not help but notice that she was in every magazine and newspaper I picked up so even more inspired by her performance, and after much difficulty, managed to track her down to arrange our first meeting. She invited me to see her perform at one of the biggest clubs in Latvia and after the show I asked if she would work out a duet to perform at her next show with 10Shott and just three days later, at her next show, they both took to the stage.
"She was incredible and after witnessing such an incredible display of talent she agreed to fly to my studios in Oxfordshire to see if we could work together. After just one and a half days in the studio she displayed a professionalism and studio attitude well beyond her tender age of just 17. After much negotiation I offered her a recording contact which four weeks later, along with her lawyers, she signed.
"Elli is a delight to work with, a true professional and at just 17 years of age has already had 6 top 10 songs and a No 1. I found out only recently from Sharon Dean at Respect Music that David Stark from SongLink had been the catalyst behind this strange sequence of events ,and whilst I have known David for many years, I had no idea he was the instigator for Elli U obtaining her first No 1 hit record.
"The work that David and his team at SongLink has achieved is commendable and without his input I would never have heard of Elli U and would almost certainly never have had the opportunity to sign her to my label. The team I work with have been involved with over 30 UK top 20 hit records and we all believe that Elli U has the potential to outshine all past successes and become an artist of global proportion. Guess I owe David a big drink!! Many congrats on your 15th anniversary as well."

Last year SongLink featured a remarkable run of success for London-based songwriter/producer ADRIAN ZAG, involving no less than eleven major releases sourced through SongLink. These included the pan-European hit Automatic by EliZe, four cuts with Greek Popstars winners Hi-5 (Warners), plus hits by South African Popstars Jamali (EMI), Khalil (Gresham Records, SA) and Czech superstar Martina Balagova (Sony BMG) among others - all pitched through SongLink!
In June 2006, David Stark invited Adrian to be on the panel of its City Showcase 'The Song's The Thing' panel along with Chris Difford (ex-Squeeze), Bob Clifford (EMI Music) and Nigel Rush (Appletree Songs). Adrian has now signed a publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing (UK), who were impressed with his sustained activity in Europe and the volume of his releases gained through SongLink. "There's no doubt that the SongLink cuts were a significant factor in helping me achieve my deal with Universal," he says, "and recently Universal's Tarja Turunen (Nightwish) has taken another of my songs, Iceflowers, via a lead in Songlink. EMI Benelux's new sensation, ROOOM, had a top 30 hit with debut single First Thing penned by Zag and Geoffrey Williams (Michael Jackson/Teddy Riley), achieved through yet another SongLink lead. Zag has recently completed production on the entire ROOOM album, for release in February. "Thanks tons to SongLink," Adrian says, "it's the best £240 I ever spent!"

Dutch-based British lyricist, BRUCE R. F. SMITH reports that he has a cut on the next Magnus Backlund album with the song Rosa (I Believe in You), co-written with Ralph van Manen. Magnus intends to release the song as his first single. Furthermore, there are plans for Magnus to perform this song from the world famous Ice Hotel (www.icehotel.com), situated 200 km north of the Arctic circle in Sweden. The show will be presented by ex-Playboy covergirl and violin virtuoso, Linda Brava (aka Linda Lampenius), and broadcast direct on TV to the USA. Another Smith/van Manen co-write will also be performed as a Ralph & Magnus duet. Another SongLink success is the inclusion of Bruce's co-write with Robert D. Fisher, 'My Impossible Dream' on Liza Starlight's latest album, 'The Voice of Wales'. This song also represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005. The diminutive Liza was once described by Simon Cowell as being 'like a mini with a Ferrari engine!' "All this thanks to SongLink - thanks again, David!"
