SONGLINK PRIZES AWARDED AT LIPA GRADUATION

Liverpool, July 2018: SongLink founder David Stark presented the annual SongLink Prizes to three songwriter students at LIPA (Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts) during the 2018 Graduation Day ceremony held at Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall on Friday July 27th, in the presence of Lead Patron Sir Paul McCartney and other dignitaries. The prizes were awarded to Alexandra Dunaway (from California) for her song 'Call Me Darling' along with Ali Gråwe (Norway) and Leo Elser (Germany) for their co-write 'You and Me'.

David Stark commented, "It's always hard to single out just two songs from the many submitted as the standard at LIPA is always so high, but Alex, Ali's and Leo's songs really stood out with a high level of commercial potential." The three graduating students all received cheques along with free subscriptions to SongLink and other opportunities over the course of the next year. Meanwhile fellow LIPA graduate Sam Baker was the recipient of the Music Producers Guild Prize, now in its eighth year, which rewards the most promising student to graduate from LIPA's Sound Technology degree programme.

As usual a number of new Companions of LIPA were inducted by CEO Mark Featherstone-Witty during the ceremony, including legendary writer/producer and Chic founder Nile Rodgers; singer and actress Toyah Willcox; former Sony UK chairman Paul Burger, choreographer Dean Lee, sound designer John Leonard and others, along with Honoured Friend Maria Walker, head of Twickenham Studios which is the UK's oldest film studio and where the Beatles filmed parts of A Hard Day's Night, Help! and Let It Be.

During his closing speech at the ceremony Paul McCartney paid to tribute to all 330 graduating students, talking about how nostalgic it always for him to return to the Philharmonic Hall which was also the venue for prize day at his old school the Liverpool Institute, on whose premises LIPA was built over twenty five years ago. He also mentioned that Graduation Day was the culmination of a highly nostalgic week which saw him playing special shows at Abbey Road Studios and The Cavern as well as doing a Q&A for LIPA students hosted by Jarvis Cocker two days earlier, which was also streamed live on Facebook.
