SONGWRITER CAMP LAUNCHED FOR EUROVISION 2016

LONDON, JULY 2015: Hit UK writers/producers & publishers DWB Songs, who have worked on tracks selling in excess of 50 million copies, have announced a Eurovision Songwriting Camp, with the aim of writing the winning songs for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 to be held in Stockholm. This new initiative is in partnership with Base Valley Studios in Veenendaal, Netherlands, where the four-day camp will be held from August 10th-13th, sponsored by Amphion and supported by SongLink.

Greig Watts from Surrey-based DWB reports, "We are gathering together top writers and performers from across Europe, including names with experience of their own national competitions, as well as the Eurovision contest itself. Participants will include such top writers/vocalists as USA writer Alan Roy Scott, who has penned songs for Celine Dion, Sheena Easton, Cyndi Lauper, Roberta Flack & Ray Charles; Jeannette Olsson, whose vocals were featured on Sweden's winning song 'Heroes' this year; Ashley Hicklin (wrote 'Mother', sung by Axel Hirsoux in semi-finals, Belgium, 2014 & wrote Belgium's 2014 entry 'Me & My Guitar', sung by Tim Dice); Stephen Beanz Rudden, who co-wrote the UK's 1995 entry 'Love City Groove'; and Bruce R. F. Smith, who had a record 7 songs in the 2005 Dutch finals, going on to represent the Netherlands at the ESC in Kiev, Ukraine with Glennis Grace & 'My Impossible Dream'; and many others from all over the continent.

The camp will consist of three days of writing (10th, 11th, 12th August) plus a day for recording on Thursday 13th August. Each day there will be 9 teams of three writers, and the intention is to write for both specific performers / countries - and also write songs for pitching to other countries, where individual country rules allow. All the ingredients are now set in place to make this melting pot of talent bubble over into steaming killer hit songs, that will go on to entertain and captivate Europe.

The camp is being supported by SongLink, with editor/publisher David Stark commenting, "This initiative by DWB & Base Valley Studios is a great idea and I look forward to hearing the songs written at the camp over the four days. SongLink has helped many writers and publishers to pitch songs for Eurovision over the years in various countries, and in fact the BBC's selection of Electro Velvet as the UK entry in 2015 came about directly as a result of a tip published in SongLink. If the BBC hold an open contest again this year (not known yet) then it's important to have the right songs and artists in place by the autumn, so the camp is perfectly timed to do just that. Plus recent changes in Eurovision rules mean that songwriters can now openly pitch to countries other than their own, providing many more opportunities for successful song selection from Andorra to the UK."
